Commodore's Scuttlebutt March 13, 2020

 HIYC Activities March 13 -  March 20

As I write this Friday Blast, I am in a hotel room in New Orleans where I have come for  a convention as a representative of the company that I work for. The executive  board of our trade organization is meeting this evening to vote on cancelling the remaining days of the trade show.  I am supposed to travel to Florida on Saturday to a meeting which has now been cancelled. On Monday, I am scheduled to tour Florida Atlantic University with my wife and daughter, but the school has sent the students home, cleared the campus and  will apparently hold online classes until the risk of the Corona Virus subsides. We are next supposed to go to a university near Myrtle Beach which has also closed its campus due to the risk of spreading the virus.

These are extraordinary times! As a Yacht Club with a large number of members sixty or older who are the group that are at the greatest risk of serious illness we need to move forward with caution. This virus can also cause serious complications for both older and  younger people who contract the illness.

We are not cancelling any events at this time. This Tuesday at our Board Meeting we will discuss what actions that we should take. In the meantime it is important for each of our members to act with the greatest care.

Today, Friday March 13 6:30 PM Jim Doran will conduct a Pro Training  Programin the clubhouse.
This program will last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. This is for both one-design and PHRF Fleet racers. We need trained and qualified volunteers to run our racing events so please come out and take this important program. It is a fact that qualified and trained PRO's are far better equipped to set  a fair race course and manage the fleet on that course.

Tuesday March 17 (Saint Patrick's Day)  is our March Board meeting which will be held at 7:00 PM.

Change: With so much going on right now, we are postponing the New Member Social on the Calendar from Saturday to a later date.

Looking ahead: On  March  21st is the Cully Cobb 50K Regatta. Online registration is open so please register early!

We will wrap up March with our Spring Cleanup Day followed by Lunch and our Quarterly Member's Meeting on Saturday March 28th..

If the mix of bold type and  my formatting seems to be off this week, it is. My company is in the middle of installing a new operating system on the computer, and I am getting some strange results which hopefully will be corrected later today when they are done with all of the uploads,
